Three SciLifeLab researchers receive ERC Starting Grants

Alexey Amunts, Tove Fall and Oskar Karlsson receive Starting Grant from the European Research Council, ERC. Project funding amounts to up to 1.5 million euros each. The purpose of the grant is to encourage talented young research leaders to become independent and build their own careers.

Novel single cell method sheds light on cell development

A team of researchers led by Sten Linnarsson (KI/SciLifeLab) report in Nature that they have developed a technique to capture dynamic processes in single cells. The method can be used to study disease processes and to observe how specialized cell types are formed during embryogenesis.

New insights in shield mechanisms of chemical chaperone

A new study by Michael Landreh, David Lane, and Sonia Laín, (all at KI/SciLifeLab) and co-workers, shows that the chaperone TMAO acts like a shield against harmful proteins, pushing them away from the protein surface. These study was published in Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters.

Reversibly photoswitchable fluorescent protein for nanoscale imaging of cells

Ilaria Testa (KTH/SciLifeLab) and colleagues have developed new rsFPs based on FusionRed. The rsFusionReds are bright and exhibit rapid photoswitching, thereby enabling nanoscale imaging of living cells. The work was presented in Nature Methods.
