Novel developments in superresolution Structural Illumination Microscopy (SIM)

Invited Bioimaging symposium

Time & place: December 13th at 13:15 in gamma-6 PASCAL room, SciLifeLab, Tomtebodavägen 23 A, Solna

Speaker: Aurélie Jost – Biological Nanoimaging group, Institute of Photonics Technology, Friedrich-Schiller Universität Jena, Germany

In the last decade a number of superresolution imaging modalities (STED, PALM, STORM, etc.) that apply switching of molecules between different fluorescent states have pushed the resolution in optical microscopy to the biological nanoscale. Simultaneously, an imaging mode in which the sample is illuminated with a grid of very fine lines has also allowed improving resolution. This technique is dubbed structured illumination microscopy (SIM) and in this talk theoretical and experimental demonstrations of this high resolution method will be presented and discussed.
