SciLifeLab Fellows seminar series: Non-coding RNA in cancer – snoRNAs and their host genes

Speaker: Anders Lund, BRIC, University of Copenhagen, Denmark

Non-coding RNAs come in many sizes and functional categories. In his talk Anders will present his strategies towards unveiling the functionalities of non-coding RNAs. Specifically, he will focus on lncRNAs that host small functional RNAs, such as microRNAs and snoRNAs, and give examples pointing to important roles for these host lncRNAs in human diseases. Furthermore, he will outline his attempts to understand the dynamics of snoRNA-mediated ribosome modifications and how these dynamics may also be important in human diseases.

Anders Lund received his PhD in Molecular and Structural Biology form the University of Aarhus. For his postdoctoral studies he went to The Netherlands Cancer Institute. Throughout his career, Anders has pioneered research on structural RNAs in cancer. Anders is a Professor at the BRIC/ University of Copenhagen and continues to push forward the frontiers of noncoding RNAs in diseases.
