Job Description
The position in Biomarker Discovery is available in the laboratory of Associate Professor Dr. Daniel Globisch at the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, Uppsala University. The Globisch laboratory is an international and multidisciplinary research group (http://www.ilk.uu.se/research/afk_en/biomarker-discovery/) after recruitment by the Science For Life Laboratory (http://www.scilifelab.se/). Our research focus lies on the development of new methodologies to enhance the scope of quantitative and qualitative metabolomics-based research to simplify the discovery of disease-specific small molecule biomarkers in human samples (Example literature: Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U. S. A. 2013, 110, 4218-4223; Angew. Chem., Int. Ed. 2011, 50, 9739-9742, Bioorg. Med. Chem. Lett.2017, 27, 3436-3440). Check our publication list for updates. The discovery of these specific early-stage biomarkers is crucial for the future development of disease diagnostics towards personalized treatment. We will utilize techniques at the interface of Chemistry and Biology with a combination of Chemical Biology techniques, Organic Chemistry, analysis of human samples, mass spectrometric analysis of metabolites, and investigation of metabolic pathways. Our team is currently searching for highly motivated and enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher with passion and enthusiasm for science to support our ongoing interdisciplinary research projects.

 

Qualifications
The applicant must hold a PhD degree and should have expertise in at least three of the following areas: Chemical Biology, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, Metabolomics, and mass spectrometric analysis of human samples. Experience in chemical synthesis is preferred but not required. The PhD degree must have been received within three years at the time of employment.

 

Desirably/meritorious
Good written and spoken English skills and the ability to work in a team are required. Personal suitability will receive special attention in the selection process.

 

Starting Date
The employment will start as soon as possible.

 

Work tasks
The selected candidate will perform chemical synthesis of metabolites, metabolite extraction and mass spectrometric analysis of human samples, metabolomics analysis using UPLC-MS/MS techniques for biomarker discovery as well as enzymatic assays. The postdoctoral position will be 100% research.

 

Employment Period
The period of employment is for two years.
