SUMMARY:40th Small Meeting on Yeast Transport and Energetics
DESCRIPTION:Join in on a Historic SMYTE in Stockholm! \n\n\n\nFor the first time\, the Small Meeting on Yeast Transport and Energetics (SMYTE) is coming to Scandinavia! From September 3–7\, 2025\, Stockholm—a city renowned for scientific excellence and innovation—will host the 40th edition of SMYTE\, bringing together a focused group of international researchers. Sweden has a longstanding tradition in yeast and membrane biology\, making it a fitting location to celebrate the profound impact of yeast research on modern biology. The very word “enzyme” derived from the Greek énzymon (“in yeast”) is a testament to yeast’s historical significance in science. Our venue\, Münchenbryggeriet (The Munich Brewery)\, symbolizes the deep-rooted connection between yeast and European Breweries\, which have contributed extensively to the understanding of essential life processes. \n\n\n\nWhy Attend?\n\n\n\nThis landmark SMYTE\, building on four decades of success\, promises an exciting and forward-thinking scientific program featuring cutting-edge\, unpublished research from leading experts in the field. Plenary and Keynote talks will address pressing biological questions\, including those relevant to pathogenic fungi\, with implications for global health and biotechnology—areas where our community is making significant strides. \n\n\n\nWhat’s in Store?\n\n\n\nParticipants will explore the latest discoveries in transport and energetics\, delving into the structure\, function\, and regulation of transport systems across yeast and fungal membranes. Dynamic and emerging topics include homeostasis\, stress physiology\, evolution\, drug resistance\, and bioenergetics\, all of which hold promise for advancing both fundamental science and applied research. \n\n\n\nBeyond the scientific program\, interactive poster sessions and ample networking opportunities will foster collaborations and career development\, rejuvenating and strengthening the yeast research community working in the broad areas of transport and energetics\, sizzingly HOTareas of fundamental importance to \n\n\n\nunderstanding life. Set against the stunning backdrop of Stockholm\, arguably the “Capital of Scandinavia\,” this SMYTE will not only push us scientifically but also offer a unique opportunity to experience Sweden’s rich heritage and vibrant culture. \n\n\n\nDon’t Miss Out! \n\n\n\nWe invite participation from members of the fungal research community at all career stages\, early career researchers\, postdocs\, and students are especially encouraged to submit abstracts for both oral and poster presentations.  With only 120 spots available\, we urge you to register\, submit your abstract\, and secure your place! \n\n\n\nWe are excited to welcome you to Stockholm in September! \n\n\n\nThe 40th SMYTE – Stockholm Organizing Team \n\n\n\nPer Ljungdahl and David Drew \n\n\n\nImportant dates\nImportant Dates \n\n\n\n• Abstract submission opens March 24 \n\n\n\n• Deadline Abstracts considered for oral presentations June 4 \n\n\n\n• Notification of Abstracts accepted for oral presentations June 16 \n\n\n\n• Early Bird Registration June 23 \n\n\n\n• Meeting Registration and Late Poster Abstract Submission Closes – August 11 \n\n\n\n\nRegistration\nConference fees \n\n\n\n Fee until 23 June 2025     Fee from 24 June 2025Academic/Principal Investigator6500 SEK 6900 SEK Postdocs/Students5600 SEK6000 SEK Industrial Associate7500 SEK 7900 SEK\n\n\n\n                                     \n\n\n\nPlease note: All conference fees above are in SEK excluding VAT. According to the Swedish and EU legislation\, 25% VAT will be added to the conference fees. In some cases\, however\, VAT is not applicable. Please read carefully the information below.. \n\n\n\nThe conference fee includes: Access to all conference lectures\, conference program and materials\, lunch and refreshments\, drinks and snacks during the poster sessions\, evening meals on Wednesday\, Thursday and Saturday. Last day for registration is 11 August\, 2025. \n\n\n\nRegister here\n\n\n\nPayment InformationDownload\n\n\n\n\nAccommodation\nPlease note: You will need to book accommodations.  \n\n\n\nThe cost for accommodations can vary. Three hotels located close to the venue are available for booking\, governmental rates apply ( ≈ 2 600 SEK per night).  \n\n\n\nBudget alternatives are available – book using your favorite web-based application\, e.g.\, Booking.com (may reduce fees). Recommendation is to search for accommodations in the Södermalm or Gamla Stan areas of Stockholm located within easy walking distance to the meeting venue Münchenbryggeriet. Availability may be limiting – good to book as soon as possible. \n\n\n\nHotel infoDownload\n\n\n\n\nAbstract submission\nTo submit your abstract you will need to create an account to get access to the submission server. \n\n\n\nIn preparing your abstract\, please note the following:Abstract Title: max 150 characters including spacesAbstract text: max 350 words (excluding title\, authors and affiliation) \n\n\n\nIndicate preference: Oral\, Poster\, or No Preference  \n\n\n\nIndicate a topic that best fits your contribution \n\n\n\nIndicate if as presenting author\, you are a young investigator (PhD or Postdoc) eligible for Best Oral Presentation and Best Poster Presentation awards \n\n\n\nSubmit your Abstract Here\n\n\n\n\nPrevious meetings\nSMYTE History \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe venue\nSeminars\, poster sessions\, and most meals will be held on site at the Münchenbrggeriet (Munich Brewery) centrally located in Stockholm\, now converted into a lovely conference center in the heart of Stockholm\, with a breathtaking veiw of the city. “A historical building completely refurbished – right by the sea with the best view.” Our venue is Magasinet\, Södermälarstrand 25 that accommodates 120 participants\, well suited for the wonderful SMYTE community.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt is highly appropriate to have our meeting at an old brewery. Some of you may not know\, European Breweries funded major research efforts during the first half of the 1900’s and their impactful findings laid the foundation of modern biochemical and genetic analysis. The groundbreaking work carried out at these breweries contributed to making yeast one the best understood forms of life. In our work today\, our use of yeast and fungi as experiemental models builds on a strong tradition of research aimed at obtaining a precise appreciation of the many remaining mysteries of life.  \n\n\n\nStockholm is easily accessible by air and train service and is a great base should you want to extend your stay and vacation in conjunction with your participation at the 40th SMYTE. \n\n\n\n\nProgram\n\n\n\n\nProgram_final20250826Download\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAdditional Highlights\n\n\n\nPoster – Networking Sessions \n\n\n\nBest Poster – Best Presentation by young researchers (PhD or Postdoc) \n\n\n\n\nGeneral Information\nFor general useful practical information regarding weather\, currency etc. \n\n\n\nThe information will be updated with travel information – ground transportation. \n\n\n\nGeneral InformationDownload\n\n\n\nSpecific information including turist information regarding Stockholm.  \n\n\n\nInformation StockholmDownload\n\n\n\nArrival information \n\n\n\nSMYTE Arrival InfoDownload\n\n\n\n\nSponsors\nSponsorPage_final20250826Download\n\n\n\n\nOrganisers\nPer Ljungdahl per.ljungdahl@scilifelab.se \n\n\n\nDavid Drew david.drew@scilifelab.se
