May 15th, Air and fire, SciLifeLab Solna

Oceans cover 71 % of the earth’s surface, extending from pole to pole, and have a major impact on the conditions we live in, from climatic control, to energy budget and food supply. Many of the essential functions in the oceans are executed by microorganisms, such as oxygen production by phytoplankton and recycling of energy from dead matter back to the food web by bacteria. As a scientific community, we are working to understand the marine microbes that remain elusive and the details about essential marine processes. The symposium will host experts on the topic and they will talk about to roles and functions of microbes in some of the most poorly understood marine habitats, covering the whole oceanic region from South to North Pole. The symposium is open to anyone in the research field, and is free to attend. Register below.
