SUMMARY:OMOP as a standard for analytics\, generating real-world evidence\, and federated machine learning
DESCRIPTION:Eric Fey\, Development Manager AI at Helsinki University Hospital \n\n\n\nAbstract\n\n\n\nIn the rapidly evolving landscape of healthcare data analytics\, the OMOP Common Data Model (CDM) has emerged as a game-changer\, revolutionizing the way real-world evidence (RWE) is generated and utilized. The presentation will draw from the OMOP experience from Helsinki University Hospital (HUS) and outline key steps\, required competencies\, and infrastructure needed for implementation\, as well as information on how to join and leverage the international OHDSI network in the process. The presentation will show how HUS has successfully navigated the process from data sources\, through ETL (Extract\, Transform\, Load) to OMOP data\, quality control\, to the first federated real-world study\, and further into swarm-learning for predictive modelling in precision medicine. Use cases covered will include participation in DARWIN\, an international OMOP study on immune checkpoint inhibitor uptake in metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (iCAN mNSCLC study-a-thon)\, and a swarm learning study across the Finnish university hospitals to cooperatively build a predictive model in acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nBiography\n\n\n\nEric Fey\, PhD\, MEng is a distinguished scientists in systems biology and medicine\, currently spearheading the development of AI applications and federated learning at the Helsinki University Hospital. His roles include the Data Team Lead at the iCAN Digital Precision Cancer Medicine flagship\, University of Helsinki; AI Development Manager\, HUS Helsinki University Hospital; and National Node Lead\, OHDSI Finland. With a PhD in Engineering and a strong background in system biology and data science\, Eric has a proven track record in academia\, entrepreneurship\, and industry\, including the 2017 Irish Laboratory Award for Collaboration Achievement\, and a significant role as Assistant Professor at University College Dublin School of Medicine. His innovative work in establishing the swarm-learning capabilities across the Finnish university hospitals and a published proof-of-concept that mathematical models of cancer signalling can outperform classical biochemical biomarkers demonstrate his commitment to advancing precision medicine through technology. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\nPlease register\, the Confirmation email provides a Zoom link to the online event. \n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\nAbout Clinical Talks\n\n\n\nClinical Talks returns with a new season! \n\n\n\nAfter seven successful seasons and over seventy dedicated speakers\, we are excited to continue showcasing the contributions of our diverse clinical\, academic\, and industry life science community. This season will feature ten insightful talks following our well-established format. The overarching theme is “How to Achieve Feasible Implementation.”  \n\n\n\nSessions will be held monthly on Fridays from 09:00 a.m. to 09:30 a.m. via Zoom\, with occasional exceptions. Each talk will be followed by an engaging Q&A session\, moderated by standing host Rikard Fred and a guest moderator with subject matter expertise to enrich the discussion.  \n\n\n\nIn today’s rapidly evolving post-pandemic landscape\, exploring how academic\, clinical\, and industry research\, combined with technological advancements\, can drive practical and sustainable solutions is crucial. \n\n\n\nJoin us for an opportunity to gain fresh insights\, expand your knowledge\, and connect with experts shaping the future of life sciences! \n\n\n\nThe SciLifeLab’s Precision Medicine Capability organises Clinical Talks.
