SUMMARY:[Spotlight seminar] Applying innovate genomic approaches to the detection and control of infectious diseases
DESCRIPTION:Professor Deborah Williamson. University of St. Andrews \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBiography\n\n\n\nProfessor Williamson is Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Head of the School of Medicine. She has held strategic leadership roles in academia and public health agencies across Australia\, New Zealand\, and the UK. She is a clinician-scientist with a global network of collaborators and over 300 journal publications. Her work has attracted significant research funding and has been recognised with awards such as the L’Oreal-UNESCO Women in Science Fellowship. \n\n\n\nHer research focuses on the development and application of innovative technologies\, particularly genomics\, to address infectious diseases. Professor Williamson has a strong clinical and public health background in microbiology and virology and remains actively engaged in clinical and public health service. \n\n\n\nAbstract\n\n\n\nAdvances in genomics and diagnostics are transforming how we detect\, monitor\, and respond to infectious diseases. This talk highlights emerging tools and approaches that combine rapid diagnostic techniques with genomic insights to support real-time public health action. It explores the potential of new technologies to enhance sensitivity\, specificity\, and accessibility of testing\, and examines how these innovations can be applied across a range of settings and pathogens. Drawing on global collaborations and practical examples\, the presentation emphasises the value of integrated strategies in strengthening infectious disease control and preparedness worldwide. \n\n\n\nRead more
