Social program

The course offers a social program with all lunches and one dinner together with the teachers included. Attendance is recommended, as it provides excellent opportunities for networking, but it is not mandatory.

Social program participants will be sent an invoice for the cost of the food after the course has been completed. NOTE – Uppsala University cannot invoice individuals.


The aim of the course is to introduce scientists at the Disciplinary domains of Medicine and Pharmacy and of Science and Technology and other interested scientists to novel and advanced technologies for proteome analysis offering powerful tools in basic research and diagnostics. The course is intended to facilitate networking between scientists and these proteomics facilities at the SciLifeLab-Uppsala. Both affinity- and non-affinity-based methods for protein detection will be covered. Mass spectrometry will be used for unbiased and high-throughput protein discovery and characterization; different variants of proximity ligation assays (PLAs) will be used for sensitive detection of proteins and their interactions and modifications in solution or in situ; and the participants will be introduced to histopathology methods including tissue microarray production, immunohistochemistry and slide scanning, using techniques, reagents and sample resources from the Human Proteome Atlas project.

Course content

The theoretical moments will include lectures, seminars and discussions, and they will be combined with practical moments including introduction to mass spectrometry, solid phase- and in situ PLA, and immunohistochemistry with tissue microarray production and image analysis.
