SUMMARY:CSI Seminar - Motivation: Finding it\, understanding it\, growing it
DESCRIPTION:Motivation can at first seem like something some people have and others don’t – but is this really true? How can we find motivation within ourselves and gain motivation through others? \n\n\n\nWe’ll look at how motivation can be influenced by a range of internal and external factors\, and discuss practical ways to self-reflect and implement strategies for resilience and persistence. Whether you’re a student\, researcher\, faculty member\, or simply interested in understanding more\, you are warmly invited to join this conversation. \n\n\n\nWe will begin with a ~ 20 min talk\, held in Solna and over zoom. Then proceed with a reflection and discussion held on-site. We encourage other sites to form watch parties\, by listening in together to the talk and then hold their own discussion afterwards. Hopefully seeding many local chapters of CSI. \n\n\n\nTo help facilitate discussion and reflection\, consider the following starter questions: \n\n\n\nAwareness: where do we experience rejection in our lives already? \n\n\n\nAnalysis: how well do I currently interact with rejection? \n\n\n\nAlternative: how could we relate to rejection in academia\, for ourselves and others? \n\n\n\nAction: how will knowledge of rejection in academia change my decisions going forward?

SUMMARY:CSI Seminar: Navigating Rejection in Academia
DESCRIPTION:Rejection is an unavoidable part of academic life – whether it’s a rejected manuscript\, an unsuccessful grant application\, or job market setbacks. But while rejection is common\, it can still feel deeply personal and discouraging. Why does rejection sting so much\, and how can we navigate the emotions and self-doubt that come with it? In this seminar\, we’ll explore how common rejection in academia is\, the psychological impact of academic rejection\, strategies for maintaining resilience\, and ways to reframe setbacks as opportunities for growth. \n\n\n\nWe will begin with a ~ 20 min talk\, held in Solna and over zoom. Then proceed with a reflection and discussion held on-site. We encourage other sites to form watch parties\, by listening in together to the talk and then hold their own discussion afterwards. Starting on that thing\, which we have procrastinated for quite some time. Beginning on a project task early instead of at the last minute. Forming healthy new habits\, such as flossing our teeth or a 30 min walk every day. When we mean to plan rest into our schedule to reduce the stress in our lives\, but – it just does not happen. \n\n\n\nWith our Moving Mental Roadblocks Model\, we will explore why the change we want has yet to happen\, and introduce our mental tool\, the Emotion-Thought-Action (ETA) ladder\, which can be used to enact sustainable change effectively. \n\n\n\nDate: 15/12/2023Time: 14:00 – 14:30Zoom link: https://kth-se.zoom.us/j/69311596145On-site location: Gamma 2 lunch room \n\n\n\nWe will begin with a ~ 20 min talk\, held in Solna and over zoom. Then proceed with a reflection and discussion held only on-site. We encourage other sites to form watch parties\, by listening in together to the talk and then hold their own discussion afterwards. Hopefully seeding many local chapters of CSI. \n\n\n\nTo help facilitate discussion and reflection\, consider the follow starter questions: \n\n\n\nAwareness: where do we experience mental roadblocks in our lives?Analysis: how well do I currently handle mental roadblocks?Alternative: how can we relate to mental roadblocks\, in ourselves and others?Action: how will knowledge of mental roadblocks change my decisions going forward? \n\n\n\nPlease forward this to friends and colleagues! \n\n\n\nYours sincerely\,The CSI Team

SUMMARY:CSI Seminar: ‘Movement Snacks’
DESCRIPTION:We at the Coaching in Science Initiative (CSI) are excited to host our first invited speakers talk titled: ‘Movement Snacks’ \n\n\n\nIn this seminar Movement Snacks will raise awareness about integrating movement into our day\, and providing simple exercises we all can do\, regardless of where we sit and work! \n\n\n\nA snack is a small meal that bridges the gap between larger ones\, providing relief from hunger. Similarly\, a movement snack involves a brief burst of physical activity to give your body a break from inactivity. If you find yourself sitting for extended periods\, don’t be overly concerned – it’s a common situation for most of us. Introducing short bursts of movement\, or “movement snacks\,” throughout the day can help enhance blood circulation\, alleviate joint stiffness\, increase your energy levels\, sharpen your focus\, and contribute to your overall well-being. \n\n\n\nBut what exactly is the Movement Snacks initiative? It’s more than just a concept – it’s a peer-led active break initiative. Using a “train the trainer” model\, it aims to train instructors in guiding active breaks among their group of peers\, co-workers. The idea isn’t just to provide knowledge but to move from theory to actual practice. In this seminar\, Movement Snacks will provide practical examples and inspire everyone to prioritize their health and well-being\, regardless of where they are. Thereby we want to ‘Practice what we preach’ and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3\,11). \n\n\n\nDate: 22/11/2023Time: 14:00 – 14:30Zoom link: https://kth-se.zoom.us/j/63988892680On-site location: Gamma 2 lunch room \n\n\n\nWe will begin with a ~ 20 min talk\, held in Solna and over zoom. After the talk\, there will be a short Q&A opportunity for people participating over zoom. Then we will proceed with a reflection and discussion held only on-site. We encourage other sites to form watch parties\, by listening in together to the talk and then hold their own discussion afterwards. Hopefully seeding many local chapters of CSI. \n\n\n\nTo help facilitate discussion and reflection\, consider the follow starter questions: \n\n\n\nAwareness: where do we experience Movements Snacks in our lives already?Analysis: how well do I currently integrate Movements Snacks into my life?Alternative: what alternatives for sedentary behavior are there\, for ourselves and others?Action: how will knowledge of Movements Snacks change my decisions going forward? \n\n\n\nPlease forward this to friends and colleagues! \n\n\n\nYours sincerely\,The CSI Team

DESCRIPTION:We are excited to host a new Coaching in Science Initiative (CSI) Seminar titled: ‘Burnout and Stress’ \nThe number of people with a burnout diagnosis has sky-rocketed during the last decade and it is now considered to be one of our major national diseases. Stress is a natural and important reaction but when the response is kept active for too long it can have negative effects. In this seminar\, we will cover some basic aspects of stress and burnout\, and share personal experiences of going through a burnout process. Together we’ll discuss where we currently experience negative stress and what measures we can take to find and keep a sustainable balance in life. \nDate: 17/10/2023\nTime: 14:00 – 14:30\nZoom link: https://kth-se.zoom.us/j/68847309081\nOn-site location: Gamma 2 lunch room \nWe will begin with a ca 20 min talk\, held in Solna and over zoom. Then proceed with a reflection and discussion held only on-site. We encourage other sites to form watch parties\, by listening in together to the talk and then hold their own discussion afterwards. Hopefully seeding many local chapters of CSI.\nTo help facilitate discussion and reflection\, consider the follow starter questions: \nAwareness: where do we experience high risk for negative stress in our lives?\nAnalysis: how well do I currently handle negative stress?\nAlternative: how can we relate to burnout/stress\, in ourselves and others?\nAction: how will knowledge of burnout/stress change my decisions going forward?

SUMMARY:Neurodiversity in communication\, relationships\, academia & life
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to host a new Coaching in Science Initiative (CSI) Seminar titled:\n‘Neurodiversity in communication\, relationships\, academia & life’ \n\n\n\nNeurodiversity; to be outside of the category of people who are considered cognitive ‘normal’. But what is ‘normal’ really? And how broadly can we extend the concept of neurodiversity? On a personal level\, perhaps it is more helpful to ask ourselves\, what neurodiverse traits do I have in general\, or in this particular group of people? Could they be different depending on whom I’m socializing with at work and at home? \n\n\n\nApplying the CSI coaching model and our core values\, we will explore who we are in relation to others\, raise awareness of how we are different\, learn more about the biology behind our emotional regulation and what to do when we find ourselves in difficult social interactions. \n\n\n\nDate: 19/9/2023\nTime: 14:00\nOn-site location: Gamma 2 lunch room\nZoom link: https://kth-se.zoom.us/j/65001858940 \n\n\n\nWe will begin with a 15-20 min talk\, held in Solna and over zoom. Then proceed with a reflection and discussion held only on-site. We encourage other sites to form watch parties\, by listening in together to the talk and then hold their own discussion afterwards. Hopefully seeding many local chapters of CSI. \n\n\n\nTo help facilitate discussion and reflection\, consider the follow starter questions:\nAwareness: where do we experience neurodiversity in our lives already?\nAnalysis: how well do I currently interact with neurodiversity?\nAlternative: how can we relate to neurodiversity\, in ourselves and others?\nAction: how will knowledge of neurodiversity change my decisions going forward?
