SUMMARY:AI Agent in Drug Discovery - Current Advance and Application
DESCRIPTION:Dinh Long Huynh \n\n\n\nNBIS and SciLifeLab Data Centre arrange an open SciLifeLab AI Seminar Series aimed at knowledge-sharing about Artificial Intelligence and applications in the Life Science community. The seminar series is open to everyone. The seminar is run over Zoom on the third Friday of the month during academic terms\, typically between 10 and 11 am\, with approx. 45 min presentation and 15 min discussion. \n\n\n\nWhen: April 17\, 10:00-11:00 \n\n\n\nWhere: Zoom http://meet.nbis.se/ainw \n\n\n\nSpeaker: Dinh Long HuynhUppsala University (Ola Spjuth group)Abstract \n\n\n\nArtificial intelligence (AI) has been shaping drug discovery for decades — from the early use of predictive models to the recent explosion of generative AI. Today\, we are entering a third wave: Agentic AI. Together with traditional predictive or generative models\, as well as computational and robot execution tools\, agentic AI embodies autonomy in drug discovery — it perceives its environment\, reasons about goals\, and takes actions with minimal human intervention. This talk explores the evolution from generative to agentic systems and why this shift matters for life sciences. We will unpack the architectural foundations of agentic AI\, showing how they enable closed-loop discovery — where AI not only designs hypotheses or molecules but also plans\, executes\, refines\, and learns from experiments. Through real-world case studies and a short live demonstration\, we will illustrate how agentic AI can transform the research cycle — accelerating hypothesis generation\, optimizing experiment design\, and integrating multimodal data across biology and chemistry. We will also discuss the current challenges and the road ahead for agentic AI systems in biopharma R&D. \n\n\n\nTo stay updated\, you can join our email list by contacting ai-network@scilifelab.se  \n\n\n\n\nJoin Seminar

SUMMARY:Data Management Plans in practise - research funder perspectives and practical demos
DESCRIPTION:Join SciLifeLab Data Centre and NBIS in collaboration with Uppsala University Library and Umeå University Library for a joint virtual event “Data Management Plans in practise – research funder perspectives and practical demos“. The first hour is focused on Data Management Plans (DMPs) from the perspective of Swedish research funders. \n\n\n\nPart 1 – Data Management Plans (DMPs) from the perspective of Swedish research fundersToday\, many research funders require or recommend that researchers write DMPs for the research projects that they fund. What is the purpose of DMPs from the research funder´ s perspective? What would the funder like to achieve with the DMPs? Major Swedish research funders present their perspective as stakeholders\, followed by a panel discussion about how DMPs can help researchers and funders conduct research more effectively and to improve the quality of the research outputs. \n\n\n\nPart 2 – Demonstration of DMPonline and Data Stewardship WizardMany researchers and PhD students perceive writing a DMPs as a difficult task. A common mistake that researchers make when they write their first DMPs is copying content from their research plan. This is usually not going to work well because data management plans address different questions than research plans. A data management plan is not about scientific questions but about work with information and how this information can be preserved and shared with other stake holders. This webinar offers interested participants an opportunity to see how tools for writing DMPs look like\, what guidance they give and how one can use question-based templates to write a data management plan in a short time. The demonstrations cover the tools DMPonline and Data Stewardship Wizard. DMPonline is a general tool that researchers can use to write DMPs or all disciplines. Data Stewardship Wizard has a different design and SciLifeLab offers an instance focused on research in life sciences. \n\n\n\nWhen: Nov 22nd 2023. 10.00-12.00 (Stockholm time) on Zoom \n\n\n\nTarget group: Researchers and PhD students from all research fields and everybody else who works with research data. \n\n\n\nRegister by Nov 22\, at 10.00 \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nPart 1: Data Management Plans – the perspective of Swedish research funders \n\n\n\n10:00 – 10:05 Welcome\, Christer Lagvik\, Uppsala University Library \n\n\n\n10:05 – 10:35 Presentations from Sanja Halling\, Swedish Research Council\, Eva Stensköld\, Riksbankens Jubileumsfond and Andreas Björke\, Forte. \n\n\n\n10:35 – 10:55 Panel discussion Sanja Halling\, Swedish Research Council\, Eva Stensköld\, Riksbankens Jubileumsfond\, Andreas Björke\, Forte and Siv Andersson\, Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation. SUMMARY:User Experience (UX) Design to build intuitive web applications for life science research
DESCRIPTION:This online webinar will showcase the basic User Experience (UX) Design principles with lessons learned from adopting them to build web applications in a life science research environment. The event is organised and hosted by NBIS and SciLifeLab with an invited speaker and Senior UX Designer from the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI). \n\n\n\nThe webinar aims to highlight some of the basic principles of User Experience (UX) Design\, to demonstrate how they provide value in the development process and to guide participants to resources for adopting UX Design practices in their own projects. While the intended audience is NBIS and SciLifeLab staff the registration is open to everyone interested in developing web applications and services for life science research. Registration is required to receive instructions and connection details for the event.  \n\n\n\nsign up here\n\n\n\nNikiforos Karamanis\, Senior UX Designer at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI)\, describes his talk as follows: \n\n\n\n– In this talk I’ll present a case study which introduces the basic principles of UX Design and will hopefully inspire you to apply them to your own projects. I’ll outline the three iterative steps that the UX Design process consists of\, namely User Research\, Design and Feedback. In User Research we try to understand who our information or data is for and why these people need it. During the Design phase we explore different ways of helping our target users answer their questions. Feedback sessions with users help us figure out if our designs actually work. I’ll conclude the talk with the lessons that I learned from applying this process in a scientific setting and will share some resources to help you learn more about UX design.
