Florian Rosenberger receives ECR Rising Star Award at HUPO 2026

SciLifeLab Fellow Florian Rosenberger, an assistant professor at Karolinska Institutet, has received the ECR Rising Star Award at the Human Proteome Organization (HUPO) World Congress 2026 in Singapore.

Organized by the HUPO Early Career Researcher Committee, the award recognizes researchers who have made an exceptional impact on the proteomics field and community early in their careers. This year’s congress took place from September 27 to October 1 under the theme “Proteomics Plus: Transforming Lives”.

We asked Florian a couple of questions in connection with the award.

“For me personally, that is very much spatial proteomics, understanding how a tissue works. I’ve always been in love with histology since my bachelor’s, and now we can understand in detail what each one of those cells is doing.

“I think in the coming years we must go from one slice of 2D tissue to a 3D stack. We’ll see where that takes us.”

“As a high school student, I did a lot of piano playing, including concert piano playing. I always liked playing around with the piano itself, almost unscrewing it, that’s where it comes back to science.

If I hadn’t gone into science, maybe I would have started building instruments and pianos, because that’s something that really interests me.”
