SciLifeLab joins forces with Sweden AI Factory on AI Skills Training
NBIS and the SciLifeLab Training Hub have started a new collaboration with Sweden AI Factory to strengthen training around artificial intelligence and its use in research. As AI becomes an increasingly important part of research and everyday work, the collaboration brings together expertise in AI to help researchers make informed and responsible use of emerging technologies.
Elin Kronander, Head of Training at NBIS explained the importance of this collaboration. “As AI reshapes scientific discovery, strengthening AI competence across our scientific community is no longer optional, it is essential. Partnering with Sweden AI Factory allows us to combine cutting-edge AI expertise with our strong foundation in life science research, empowering researchers to use these tools responsibly while maintaining high quality in their work.”
The first initiative of the collaboration is a one-day online course exploring both the opportunities and challenges that come with the rapidly evolving use of AI. The course is open to anyone interested in learning more about AI and will cover topics including agentic AI, cybersecurity, explainable AI, and ethics.
“While AI is becoming increasingly integrated into our work, many of us are still only scratching the surface of what these tools can do, and of the risks and challenges that come with using them. With this course, we want to give participants a broader understanding and solid foundation that helps them use AI tools in an efficient and responsible way,” says Marcin Kierczak, Training Coordinator at NBIS.
“We also wanted to cover topics that are particularly relevant in life science and healthcare applications, such as explainable AI (xAI) and a specific ethical angles geared towards healthcare applications and working with sensitive data.” adds Ivan Cucchi from Sweden AI Factory.
Registration for the course is open until November 24, 2026. More information about the programme and registration is available on the course website.
The course is intended to be a first step in a broader training collaboration between SciLifeLab and Sweden AI Factory, creating opportunities to combine complementary expertise and develop further training initiatives as the role of AI in research continues to evolve.
