SciLifeLab co-led project proposal at ELIXIR Biohackathon 2025
SciLifeLab co-lead Harshita Gupta from the Training Hub and Open Science team, together with two colleagues from the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics, has had a project accepted to the ELIXIR Biohackathon 2025, which will take place in Berlin this November.
Harshita will join Nina Norgren (Training Manager) and Dimitris Panouris (Systems Developer) from the SciLifeLab Training Hub to work on the project “Mining the potential of knowledge graphs for metadata on training.” The project explores how training metadata, formatted with Bioschemas and collected from platforms such as the SciLifeLab Training Portal, can be turned into queryable knowledge graphs. This approach is expected to make it easier to find and connect relevant training materials, supporting SciLifeLab’s strategy to build tailored learning paths, create detailed trainer profiles, and better integrate with existing databases.
The ELIXIR Biohackathon brings together programmers, data scientists, and bioinformaticians from across Europe to advance widely used resources for the life science community. Over 30 projects were selected for this year’s edition, offering not only focused project work but also opportunities for participants to expand their professional networks.
The Training Hub collaborates closely with all SciLifeLab Platforms, particularly the Bioinformatics Platform, which serves as the Swedish Node of ELIXIR and provides key connections to the European training community.
Reflecting on the project’s acceptance, Jessica Lindvall, Head of Training at SciLifeLab, said:
“For SciLifeLab and the Training Hub, building ties with European training networks marks an important step in strengthening our training infrastructure. With this Biohackathon project, we aim to set new standards for the accessibility of educational resources, in line with our commitment to quality and FAIR training practices.”
