Persistent and temporary cookies

SciLifeLab uses both persistent and temporary cookies.

Persistent cookies are stored on your device for the period specified by the system that sent them, or until you, as a visitor, delete them.

Temporary cookies, known as session cookies, are stored only temporarily while you are on the website and are not saved for your next visit. Temporary cookies are deleted when you close your browser or when their session time expires.

Temporary cookies are used on parts of the website that require a login, as well as for certain interactive services.

If the service includes a logout function, the cookie is deleted when you log out; otherwise, it remains until you close your browser. The cookie contains an ID so that the system can identify you after you log in. For services that do not require a login, the cookie is used so that the service can keep track of the choices you make and present relevant information based on those choices.

Necessary cookies

Some cookies are necessary for the website to function. If you visit pages that use such cookies, you cannot opt out of them. This applies, for example, to pages whose basic functionality relies on cookies, such as filling out forms or logging in to a web service. The feature that allows you to opt out of non-essential cookies is itself an example of this.

Non-necessary cookies

Cookies that are not considered necessary for the website’s basic functionality fall into the categories listed below. When you visit the website for the first time, you will be given the option to opt out of these cookies in a special dialog box. The services that rely on them will then not function.

Media providers

The website contains media embedded from third-party providers such as YouTube and Vimeo. When these are played, the video services may use cookies for statistical and marketing purposes as well as local storage of information. If you have opted out of this type of cookie in the website’s cookie settings, you can change your selection on the pages where such media appears.

Statistical and tracking cookies

This website uses Matomo, which we operate ourselves, to evaluate and improve the website’s content, user experience, and structure. The information collected is anonymized. The service places cookies in your browser, and you can choose to opt out of them.

Marketing cookies

The website contains pages that use cookies to communicate with social media platforms. You also have the option to opt out of these cookies.

If you do not wish to accept cookies

If you do not wish to accept cookies, you can set your browser to automatically refuse cookies or to notify you each time a website requests permission to store a cookie.

You can also use your browser to delete previously stored cookies. Visit your browser’s help pages for more information on this. If you choose not to accept cookies, the features described above will not work or will only work partially on the website.

Change your cookie preferences on this website

If you’d like to change your cookie preferences on this website, you can access the settings again. To do so, click “Cookie Policy” in the footer and then go to “Manage cookie preferences”.

Manage cookie preferences

Marketing and tracking cookies are cookies or any other form of local storage, used to create user profiles to display advertising or to track the user on this website or across several websites for similar marketing purposes.
