The Department of Molecular Biosciences, The Wenner-Gren Institute (MBW), conducts experimental basic research in molecular cell biology, integrative biology, and infection and immunobiology. The research is characterized by modern and advanced methodologies, and the research environment has a strong international profile and is affiliated with SciLifeLab (Solna). The department offers education at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. MBW is one of the larger departments within the Faculty of Science at Stockholm University, with 30 research groups and approximately 180 employees, of whom about 50 are doctoral students.

Stockholm University conducts internationally competitive research in molecular physiology. MBW intends to strengthen and further develop its research and education in this area. The department has purpose-built infrastructure for advanced metabolic studies in mouse and rat models. The successful candidate is expected to lead a research group in molecular physiology and conduct experimental research with the aim of understanding mammalian metabolism at a molecular mechanistic level. We are seeking an outstanding researcher who can be integrated into the existing research environment.

Qualification requirements

In order to qualify for the position as associate professor, the applicant must have demonstrated good teaching skills and have a doctoral degree, or equivalent research expertise, of relevance to the subject area and the main responsibilities of the position.

All teaching positions at Stockholm University require the ability to collaborate and the general ability and suitability to perform one’s duties. 

Assessment criteria

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research and teaching skills. The assessment of research skills will focus primarily on merits within the subject area of the
position.

The following will also be considered:

  • the ability to develop and lead activities and staff
  • administrative skills

In the case of otherwise similar qualifications, the following criteria will be used to distinguish between candidates:

  • teaching experience within the subject area of the position.

Teaching and learning in higher education

Completed training in teaching and learning in higher education, or equivalent knowledge, is an advantage. An applicant who has not completed at least 15 credits of teaching and learning in higher education and is not considered to have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge should undergo such training within the first two years of employment.

Additional information 

Swedish “universitetslektor”; tenured position approximately equivalent to Senior Lecturer (UK) or Associate Professor (US).

Proficiency in Swedish is not a requirement at the time of appointment, but the candidate should be able to carry out teaching and administrative duties that require good command of Swedish within a couple of years of employment.
