Doctoral student in Synthetic biology
School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health at KTH
Project description
Third-cycle subject: Biotechnology
This Ph.D. position is in the Division of Systems Biology, part of the Department of Proteomics. The group of Paul Hudson does research on bacteria that fix carbon dioxide, such as cyanobacteria. Cyanobacteria in particular are also models for carbon fixation in plant chloroplasts. This project will develop and apply new synthetic biology methods with the aim to enhance the rate of carbon fixation and conversion in cyanobacteria. Such methods include, for example, CRISPR/Cas gene editing, dynamic enzyme regulation, as well as screening of genetic libraries. The project will also make use of systems biology data, such as genomics and proteomics, to achieve these goals. The project is part of a consortium exploring microbial production of food ingredients. The student will work with postdocs and there is the possibility for visits to collaborating laboratories in Umeå and Gothenburg. The project is funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research.
Supervision: Paul Hudson is proposed to supervise the doctoral student. Decisions are made on admission
