External Relations Officer

SciLifeLab (Science for Life Laboratory) started in 2010 as a collaboration between four universities: Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm University and Uppsala University, and functions as a national research infrastructure for large-scale analyses in molecular biosciences since 2013.

Do you want to be part of developing the future Swedish life science ecosystem in a central position between national research infrastructures, industry and health care? We are looking for an Industrial Relations Officer to join the newly established InfraLife initiative, which aims to build a joint life sciences hub between SciLifeLab, MAX IV and ESS. The employment is at KTH/ SciLifeLab Operations Office.

About InfraLife – about the units

InfraLife aims to maximize the benefits of the investments made in Sweden’s large strategic national infrastructures SciLifeLab and MAX IV, and the European Spallation Source ERIC (ESS, in the field of life sciences. This unique collaboration seeks to assist industry and the healthcare sector gain awareness and increased knowledge, providing better prerequisites to utilize these large-scale research infrastructures across Sweden.  

Together, we will engage the broad life science community in academia, industry and health care, and jointly develop new technology-, data- and challenge-driven capabilities across all sectors of life science. 

InfraLife Hub builds on the individual external relations functions at the three infrastructures, bridging these and providing a single point of entry. This is one of two positions working within the InfraLife initiative. The other position will be based at MAX IV/ Lund University. The industrial branch organizations, SwedenBIO and LIF are partnering with InfraLife Hub, providing a link to the entire industrial life science community across Sweden. 

About you 

We believe that you are a driven, outgoing, and socially skilled person with a keen interest to guide companies in their effort to solve R&D challenges with the help of the advanced research tools of life science. You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and can thus establish trustworthy relationships and create the necessary partnerships. Great emphasis will be placed on personal competence and suitability.

To be successful in this role we believe you have solid scientific background with a university degree within molecular biology/chemistry/soft matter/biotechnology/biophysics or similar, and at least 5 years of experience working with research management and/or coordination at some level. Experience in research using advanced research infrastructure is a definite merit. You have a background from either an industrial research group, from healthcare or clinical research, or from an academic research environment with extensive industrial collaborations. A good understanding of the Swedish life science ecosystem, and experience in interacting with funding agencies and policy-making organizations, is a strength in this position. You have a proven record of collaborative and interdisciplinary work.

You can express yourself freely in both spoken and written English and should be comfortable also in Swedish. Experience with writing applications and different types of legal documents is seen as a merit.

About the assignment 

We offer an inspiring job in a stimulating and international working environment. You will be part of a new team, building a new function, developing this based on and integrated with the successful existing structures of the SciLifeLab External Relations Office, MAX IV Industrial Relations Team and ESS Host State Relations group. Your base will be at the SciLifeLab Solna Campus in Stockholm, while MAX IV and ESS are located in the northern parts of Lund city. It will be important to keep in touch with all sites and remain up to date on the three organisations.

Working within the project you will support and proactively reach out to engage a growing user community from the life science industry and healthcare sectors.

Your tasks will include:

  • Development, coordination and project management of the InfraLife project, ensuring timely delivery of milestones 
  • Work with national and international stakeholders in life science and healthcare around SciLifeLab, MAX IV and ESS, establishing sustainable and long-term partnerships and networks
  • Creating structures to enable industry and healthcare access to the units and the available advanced methods
  • Starting initiatives and organizing educational and outreach activities toward the life science industry and healthcare sector, including thematic challenge driven multi-stakeholder workshops
  • Functioning as a link between the project partners to increase knowledge and share best practices
  • Generating communications content and activities related to InfraLife
  • Acting as the InfraLife representative at external meetings and events that can be both scientific and strategic in nature
  • Work to acquire additional funding for collaboration between InfraLife and other stakeholders
