Postdoc in AI and Machine Learning research in bioinformatics
We are looking for a motivated, independent post-doctoral and team-oriented researcher in AI and machine learning eager to work on the development of new methodologies and computing solutions to analyze complex, high-dimensional data. The project involves both real-world data analysis and new methods development. The key analytical challenge in this project is the development of methods to incorporate prior information into neural network models, as well as novel approaches for data integration based on multi-task learning.

The announced post-doc position is part of a joint collaboration between the two largest research programs in Sweden, the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) and the SciLifeLab and Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS), with the ultimate goal of solving ground-breaking research questions across disciplines.
This position is part of a twin-post-doctoral research project “Data integration via auto-encoders with biological constraints”. This post-doctoral researcher will join Rebecka Jörnsten’s group at Chalmers and work together with the DDLS post-doctoral researcher who will join Mika Gustafsson’s group at Linköping University. Rebecka Jörnsten’s research group at the Division of Applied Mathematics and Statistics comprises of 4 PhD students. The research group is focused on network modeling, data integration and regularization techniques in high-dimensional statistical modeling and neural networks. We collaborate with several research groups in cancer genomics and bioinformatics.

DDLS: The SciLifeLab and Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS) is a 12-year initiative that focuses on data-driven research, within fields essential for improving the people´s lives, detecting and treating diseases, protecting biodiversity and creating sustainability. The program will train the next generation of life scientists and create a strong computational and data science base. The program aims to strengthen national collaborations between universities, bridge the research communities of life sciences and data sciences, and create partnerships with industry, healthcare and other national and international actors. The post-doctoral position offers an opportunity to further develop your research profile. The majority of your working time is devoted to your own research. As a post-doctoral researcher, you are expected to work independently and to be able to supervise/co-supervise Master’s and Ph.D. students. The teaching of undergraduate students may also be included to a small extent. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).
To qualify for this postdoc position, you must have a doctoral degree in a relevant field; Statistics, mathematics, data science, computational sciences, computational biology or bioinformatics. Previous experience with machine learning and/or artificial intelligence and genomics is meritorious. Documented previous experience of engaging in productive team-work, e.g. collaboration with experimental partners, is another important merit. You should also be experienced in programming (Python/R or equivalent languages) and used to working with big data computing solutions.
The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
