killed and committed employees are a crucial factor in the success of Linköping University. And we need more of them. Our core expertise comes from teachers and researchers, but a successful university requires experienced and motivated employees in many fields. Everyone is important. We need to recruit many new employees thanks to, among all, an expansion in our research activity. We need you here. We look forward to receiving your application!
The Department of Computer and Information Science was founded in 1983 but its roots go back to the early 1970s. It is one of the largest computer science departments in northern Europe.
Our research covers a broad spectrum of fields, from core to applied computer sciences. Its vast scope also benefits our undergraduate and graduate programmes, and we now teach courses in several engineering programmes at bachelor’s and master’s levels, as well as the programmes in statistics, cognitive science and innovative programming.

We are now looking to appoint postdoctors in the field of Machine Learning.
The Division of Statistics and Machine Learning (STIMA) is now looking for several postdocs. The main duty for these positions is research in machine learning, which includes both theoretical analysis, method development and applied research. There are five suggested research topics for this opening:
(1) Machine learning for materials discovery, (2) Novel AI methods for experimentally constrained protein structure prediction, (3) AI-powered carbon border adjustments, (4) Uncertainty quantification for machine learning, and (5) Spatio-temporal data analysis and hybrid modeling. Further details about the research topics are available at https://lindsten.netlify.app/postdoc_positions/
Please specify in your application which topic(s) that you would be interested in working on – it is possible to apply for multiple topics with a single application. Alternatively, if you have other research ideas that you would like to pursue as a postdoc at STIMA, feel free to list them in your application as well – we are open to own initiatives!
The postdoc positions are mainly focused on research but can also involve up to 20% teaching. Teaching will be at basic or advanced level for courses in machine learning and/or statistics. The duties also include contributing to the scientific discussion at the department, for instance by participating in and organizing reading groups and seminars, engaging in PhD supervision, and teaching of PhD courses.
You will work at The Division of Statistics and Machine Learning (STIMA) at the Department of Computer and Information Science (IDA). Statistics and machine learning are two closely related scientific fields concerning the analysis and reasoning about data, as well as developing methods for creating autonomous systems that learn from data. The Division of Statistics and Machine Learning (STIMA) conducts research and education in both statistics and machine learning, at the undergraduate, advanced and PhD levels. STIMA is characterized by a modern view of the statistical subject, where probabilistic models are combined with computational algorithms to solve challenging complex problems, as well as a statistical view of machine learning which clearly integrates the two subject areas within the division.
To be qualified to take employment as postdoc, you must have been awarded a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. This degree must have been awarded at the latest by the point at which LiU makes its decision to employ you.
It is considered advantageous if your doctoral degree is no older than three years at application deadline for this job. If there are special reasons for having an older doctoral degree – such as taking statutory leave – then these may be taken into consideration.
We are seeking applicants who have a doctorate or equivalent degree in machine learning, statistics, computer science or a related area.
A successful candidate should have a strong background in machine learning, applied mathematics and/or statistics. Scholarly proficiency must have been demonstrated through original research resulting in publications in internationally recognized journals and conferences. Publications in journals in statistics and machine learning, as well as publications at international machine learning conferences, are particularly advantageous. The applicant should be skilled at prototyping new models and algorithms in a suitable software environment, with documented experience. The applicant should furthermore have a strong drive towards performing fundamental research; the ability and interest to work in a team; and strong communication skills.
The position requires very good knowledge in both spoken and written English.
