Postdoctoral position in immunology and physiology
Uppsala University is a comprehensive research-intensive university with a strong international standing. Our ultimate goal is to conduct education and research of the highest quality and relevance to make a long-term difference in society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has over 45,000 students, more than 7,000 employees and a turnover of around SEK 7 billion.
The Department of Medical Cell Biology at Uppsala University is a strong and international research environment. The department has about 100 employees, of which about 25 are doctoral students, 20 postdoctoral fellows, and 30 researchers, teachers and professors.
Duties/Project description: The research group of Gustaf Christoffersson at SciLifeLab/Department of Medical Cell Biology (https://www.scilifelab.se/researchers/gustaf-christoffersson) works to increase the understanding of immune regulatory mechanisms in autoimmunity and type 1 diabetes. The methods used in the lab are different animal models of type 1 diabetes, advanced in vivo microscopy, culture of immune cells from mice and humans, immune staining of tissue from mice and humans and genetic analyses.
We are now looking for a qualified and motivated postdoctor who will primarily focus on increasing our understanding of some of the new immune regulatory mechanisms which have been discovered in the lab. The project will involve high-resolution imaging of different animal models, in vitro work, and work with large proteomic- and mRNA-sequencing datasets.
Requirements: To qualify for an employment as a postdoctor you must have a PhD degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in imunology, physology or equivalent. The PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application deadline. The three year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.
We are looking for a motivated candidate with a robust background in immunology and/or physiology. The applicant must be proficient in English speech and writing and have at least one published first-author article in a well-renowned scientific journal within the field. You are expected to be able to work independently, but will also need to actively cooperate with other members of the group. The applicant is further expected to actively take part in supervising new group members and students.
Additional qualifications: Documented work or certificates from work with research animals is a merit. Experience from work with larger datasets (e.g. RNAseq or proteomics) and different imaging methods are desirable, but not required. Personal qualifications will be of great significance in the evaluation process.
The application should contain a brief description of research interests and relevant experiences, CV, copies of diplomas and transcripts, and the applicant’s thesis (or a draft). Please also submit letters of reference or contact information of previous research supervisors.
Salary: Individual salary.
Starting date: 01-09-2021 or as otherwise agreed.
Type of employment: Temporary position according to central collective agreement.
Scope of employment: 100 %
