Permanent part-time (50%) position with starting date as soon as possible or as agreed upon.  

A probationary period  6 months may be applied.

The position is located at the Division of Biomedical Engineering in the interdisciplinary research group EMBLA, which is led by Professor Maria Tenje. The group conducts successful and internationally-recognized research in organs-on-chip and droplet-based microfluidics in collaboration with research teams at several different Swedish and overseas universities. We are also running a pilot unit within SciLifeLab that support researchers within life sciences with fabrication and use of microfluidic systems. Research funding has been obtained through several prestigious grants, including from the Knut och Alice Wallenberg Foundation, and European Research Council (ERC). Today we are ~15 people in the group and as we have recently received funding for two new large projects, we are now looking for a service oriented and results-driven project coordinator for administrative support to the research group.

Work duties

This position is primarily an administrative support function. Your duties will be to organise, structure and develop work routines in the EMBLA research group and the pilot unit. Typical tasks will be: coordinating meetings (both for smaller groups and scientific symposium) and take meeting notes, preparing and reporting on project and group budgets, making travel arrangements, updating websites and social media with new research results and publications and helping with reporting to the university as well as national and international research funders.

Qualification requirements

Doctoral degree in biomedical engineering, engineering sciences, materials science or equivalent education in a similar area as well as documented experience of research within at least one of these areas, since we believe that it is necessary to understand the nature of the research to enjoy this position and to manage the tasks given.

Additional qualifications

Experience in scientific writing. Experience in financial reporting and evaluating commercial potential in research projects is meritorious. Experience from working with funding agencies is highly meritorious as well as documented experience from being engaged in larger outreach events for the general public. Interest and experience with graphic design and scientific illustrations is also meriting.

Since the number of assignments will vary over time, it is necessary that you are flexible in nature and manage to be responsible for several different projects of varying size in parallel and distribute your work time to meet the needs of the role. We require excellent oral and written knowledge of English.

We attach great importance to your personal qualities and you must be independent and not afraid of taking own initiatives, have the ability to lead and run projects and communicate and cooperate with researchers at different levels. We think you like helping your colleagues and take pride in providing service of the highest standards. It is important that you are pedagogical, structured, have good attention to detail and can work effectively both individually and in groups. To enjoy this position, you must be willing to make an effort whenever needed, whether it involves simple everyday chores or more advanced tasks.
