The Drug Discovery & Development platform at the Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab DDD) is a national infrastructure for academic drug development with the task of translating academic discoveries into drug candidates for further commercial development. The business, which has existed for almost ten years, has, among other things, contributed to >10 new companies and four clinical drug candidates. The platform includes around 40 employees at six Swedish universities who all support collaborative projects with external academic project owners.
The DDD unit “Therapeutic Protein Engineering” (TPE) is attached to KTH and located at SciLifeLab DDD, Solna. The unit’s main responsibility is to deliver well-characterized antibodies, antigens, and target proteins to the projects, as well as be technically responsible for the selection-based projects.
Your tasks will be to develop expression and purification protocols for challenging target proteins in our drug discovery projects, as well as to analyze and characterize protein properties such as functionality and conformation using various biochemical and biophysical techniques. Your role will be both lab-based and coordinative. You are innovative, creative and a problem solver.
Qualifications
Requirements
- A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree in biotechnology, biochemistry or molecular biology
- Thorough experience in cloning, overexpression and purification of proteins in bacteria, insect cells and/or mammalian cells
- Protein purification using ÄKTA or comparable systems
- Experience with protein engineering
- Thorough knowledge of standard protein analysis methods
Preferred qualifications
- Experience from biotech/pharmaceutical industry or relevant academic research environment
- Experience with structural biology, especially cryo-EM
- Experience with biophysical protein analysis methods, e.g. SPR, BLI, ITC, DLS and DSF
- Experience with protein engineering
- Experience with display methods for selection of affinity molecules, e.g. antibody fragments
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Project management and coordination
- Knowledge of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality

About the employment
