Staff scientist – cheminformatician at the SRC funded National infrastructure Chemical Biology Consortium Sweden (CBCS)
Chemical Biology Consortium Sweden, CBCS, will from 2022 be a Swedish Research Council funded infrastructure of national interest. This means that the existing capabilities will be strengthened and new capabilities and four new nodes – at Lund, Uppsala, Linköping and Gothenburg Universities, respectively, will be established. CBCS (www.CBCS.se) has been in operation since 2010 with two nodes at KI and at Umeå University, respectively, and is an infrastructure for chemical biology at Science for Life Laboratory (www.scilifelab.se) in the Chemical Biology and Genome Engineering platform. CBCS offers services for the identification of chemical tools (bioactive small-molecules) for all fields of life sciences. The infrastructure offers collaborative service and guidance within assay development, small-molecule screening and hit to chemical probe optimization. Additional service offerings in small-molecule profiling, including Cell Painting, and screening in primary and complex disease models are currently being established.
The KI node of CBCS is now seeking a cheminformatician with competences in ligand based design, small molecule screening, hit evaluations and structure-activity relationship analysis of bioactive small molecules, as well as chemical database management experience, biostatistics and programming experiences are desirable.
Your mission
Eligible applicants will have a well-documented track record of relevance to employment. Previous experience of cheminformatics work in the context of small molecule screening from industrial sector or academic screening centers is considered a strong merit.
At CBCS, you will have an impact on the small molecule compound library expansion and developments, advice on screening set design and on the screening strategies in different projects. The position will include close interactions and collaboration with medicinal chemists in the hit evaluation work following experimental screening campaigns, supporting experimental work e.g. with advice on data handling and analysis. In profiling experiments, you will provide support in streamlining assay set up and data analysis, including data visualization and dimensionality reduction.
Since CBCS is a unit at SciLifeLab you will be representing CBCS in interactions with the SciLifeLab Data Centre, as well as with bioinformaticans at neighbouring infrastructures, and also take on coordination on data handling and analysis, hit evaluations etc across all CBCS’s nodes
Your profile
The successful candidate must have a staff scientist mind set, be service minded and dedicated to high quality and reproducible data production, have very good interpersonal and cooperation skills, be flexible and capable of working independently in a structured and efficient way. Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English are essential as well as documentation experiences, such as electronic lab notebooks and database systems. Programming skills in Python, R, RDKit, experience from databases and SQL, and hands-on experience from using KNIME and Schrödinger Suite or other state-of-the-art data analysis and modelling tools are meriting. Activities can include creating user-friendly and reusable pipelines to support efficient screening and data analysis in collaboration with screeners and users. In profiling experiments data integration, compound clustering and familiarity with compound mechanism of actions is merited.
You have a Ph.D. in a relevant area or equivalent experience from industry or academic screening lab.
