Blooming algea can increase mercury methylation

Researchers from Uppsala and Umeå University have found that the formation of methylmercury in sediment is controlled by the molecular composition of organic matter. Three of the authors are affiliated to SciLifeLab: Andrea G Bravo, Stefan Bertilsson and Alejandro Mateos-Rivera. The study has been published in Nature Communications.
