An international research team involving researchers from Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm University, Uppsala University and SciLifeLab have shown that one nights loss of sleep affects tissue metabolism and the regulation of gene expression in humans. These results published in Science Advances, might explain how chronic loss of sleep can promote weight gain and loss of skeletal muscle mass quality. The work was supported by the Mass Spectrometry Based Proteomics facility, NGI and the Bioinformatics Platform at SciLifeLab.
