My PRAO at SciLifeLab, Solna

My name is Desdemona Verazza, and I’m a 9th grade student from Finland. I spent my PRAO at SciLifeLab in Solna, working in the Communications Office during week 41. The team there plans events, writes newsletters, and manages social media.

I chose SciLifeLab because I’m very interested in biology and I think I’ll follow an academic path in the future. I wanted to see what it’s like to work in a science-focused place, and SciLifeLab gave me a great chance to explore that.

During my intense four days, I learned how the organization works and why the Communications Office is such an important department. I helped write social media posts, correct the weekly news, made a timetable a list for an event, and worked on designing boards and graphics. I was lucky to be there the week the Nobel Prizes were announced, so I spent time learning about the prizes and how SciLifeLab is connected to them.

I got to see the buildings, offices, labs, and even parts of the campus. I met many kind and interesting people, many of whom had studied science and research. They were always friendly, asked about my interests, and made me feel welcome, especially during the training sessions that I found really fun.

I’m really grateful for the chance to be at SciLifeLab. I learned a lot, and everything was so interesting and exciting. The experience showed me how many different jobs exist in the science world, and it helped me think more clearly about what I might want to do in the future.
