Jiri Bartek (SciLifeLab/KI) and Jiri Lukas from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, have received the Anders Jahre’s Award for Medical Research 2020 of 1 million NOK (967 000 SEK) from the University of Oslo and the Anders Jahre Foundation for the Promotion of Science.
Bartek and Lukas have been studying how proteins, that regulate cell cycles and DNA repair, might protect genes and prevent the development of cancer.
The prize is only awarded to “research of outstanding quality in basic and clinical medicine”, and both researchers are frequently cited for their work that has led the way towards “new principles in cancer treatment”.
