SciLifeLab researchers elected for EMBO membership

SciLifeLab researchers David Drew and Johan Elf have been elected members at The European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO). “I am delighted to welcome them to EMBO, and I know that they will enrich the life of the organization immensely”, says EMBO Director Fiona Watt.

On July 6, EMBO announced the election of 67 new members from 22 different countries, among them, SciLifeLab researchers David Drew (Stockholm University) and Johan Elf (Uppsala University). 

The European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) was funded in 1963 by a group of biologists in Ravello, Italy, and consists of nearly 2 000 members. Today, the main purpose of the organization is to promote the life sciences in Europe and beyond.

“The new EMBO Members and Associate Members are exceptional scientists, who carry out leading research across a variety of fields, ranging from cell biology and cancer to vaccine development and machine learning”, says EMBO Director Fiona Watt in a press release. 

Members of EMBO act as councilors regarding the organization’s different activities, such as evaluating funding applications or participating in the Council and committees and the editorial boards of the EMBO press journals. 

Each year, existing EMBO members nominates and elect new members, which ensures the flexibility to expand EMBO activities into emerging fields in life sciences. 

The new members will be welcomed at the annual Members’ Meeting between the 26th and 28th of October 2022 in Heidelberg, Germany.
