The Swedish Metabolomics Centre (SMC; SLU/UmU) is a state-of-the-art facility that has specialized in the use of mass spectrometry based methods for the analysis of metabolites in different biological systems.

SMC has operated for >10 years as a national infrastructure with focus on prospective and functional discovery studies and developed a unique expertise to swiftly develop and adapt new methods to individual projects from a wide range of science domains, research questions, sample matrices and sample (plasma, cells, bacteria, plants, tissues etc.) and different sizes/volumes. Typical projects (between 20-500 samples) start with small or medium sized set of experiments that target specific questions in biology, biotechnology or medicine.
