SciLifeLab

Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab, http://www.scilifelab.se/ is a national center for large-scale life science research with an advanced technological infrastructure. At SciLifeLab, multidisciplinary research is carried out based on DNA sequencing, gene expression analysis, proteomics, bioinformatics, biostatistics and system biology. The goal is to enable Swedish researchers to analyze genes, transcripts and proteins in different organisms in order to map molecular mechanisms related to health and the environment. Examples of thematic research areas that are currently being processed within SciLifeLab are clinical genomics/proteomics, cancer genome and the genomics of complex diseases as well as ecological and environmental genomics.

Job description

You will be working as a research engineer in the Strategic Collaborations team at the National Genomics Infrastructure at SciLifeLab in Solna which is one of the largest European sequencing units. The team focuses on developing tomorrow’s techniques within the field of next generation sequencing (NGS), often in collaboration with an external partner. Your role will be varied and you will be involved in multiple different tasks, including:

  • Develop, test and troubleshooting of new technologies and applications.
  • Present results in reports, articles and orally.
  • Work in collaborative projects with users.
  • Develop methods for laboratory automation systems.
  • Control and maintain instruments and methods according to responsibility areas.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A graduate degree or an advanced level (higher education) in the research subject or equivalent competence, eg in biotechnology, molecular biology or equivalent’
  • Familiarity with working in a laboratory environment.
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Subject-related and professional skills

Preferred qualifications

  • Previous experience of method development within molecular biology
  • Published peer review articles
  • Bioinformatic programming (Python, R, JavaScript, bash, HPC)

  • Experience of large-scale sequencing, but also other techniques for DNA and RNA analysis
  • Experience of service-oriented laboratory operations
  • Previous experience of laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and ISO-accreditation
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality
