Postdoctoral Researcher, NGI Uppsala, SNP&SEQ Technology Platform

Uppsala University, Department of Medical Sciences

Are you interested cutting-edge genomics technologies and eager to contribute to developing methods at the forefront of life science? We are seeking a motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Research and Development (R&D) team at the Uppsala node of the National Genomics Infrastructure (NGI), part of SciLifeLab (www.scilifelab.se). NGI is one of the largest academic providers of next-generation sequencing technology (NGS) and SNP genotyping services in Europe, offering world-class technologies and support to researchers across Sweden and beyond. At NGI, you will be part of a dynamic environment with access to a broad range of instruments, high throughput automation, and strong computational expertise (https://ngisweden.scilifelab.se/).

Description of work

You will contribute to the development and implementation of novel methods and technologies for genome, transcriptome and epigenome analysis, both in bulk and at single-cell resolution, across a range of research applications. These projects will be conducted in close collaboration with NGI Uppsala, providing access to state-of-the-art technologies and instrumentation for high-throughput genome analysis. You will also have the opportunity to work closely with the Molecular Precision Medicine research group at the Department of Medical Sciences (https://www.uu.se/en/department/medical-sciences/research/research-groups/molecular-precision-medicine), engaging in translational genomics research with clinical relevance.

The role includes designing and performing wet-lab experiments, as well as handling bioinformatics tasks such such as running analysis pipelines, performing quality control, and conducting downstream data analyses. You are expected to actively contribute to method development, validation, and documentation; publish results in peer-reviewed journals; and present your work at international conferences and scientific meetings. The position offers opportunities for professional development through participation in relevant courses and training, as well as through national and international collaborations with researchers, other core facilities, and industry partners.

Qualification Requirements

PhD degree (or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD) in genetics, genomics, molecular biology, cell biology, or a related field.

The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.

  • Broad knowledge and interest in genomic technologies and an innovative mindset.
  • Documented experience with RNA, DNA, or methylation sequencing data analysis using relevant programming languages (e.g., Python, R).
  • Experience working in a LINUX/UNIX environment.
  • An excellent molecular biology skillset.
  • Experience with NGS library preparation supported by a strong publication record.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.

Additional Desired Merits

Documented experience in method or protocol development is considered a strong advantage. In addition to technical expertise, personal qualities will be highly valued. We are looking for a candidate with a positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team setting, as well as the motivation to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative research environment.
