Research Engineer in in situ sequencing

Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) is a national center for large-scale life sciences with a focus on health and environmental research. SciLifeLab combines advanced technical state-of-the-art equipments with a broad knowledge of transnational medicine and molecular life sciences. The combination of the highly interdisciplinary expertise and research projects at the department is unique in Sweden and also at an international level.
The national facility for the in situ sequencing (ISS) unit located at SciLifeLab in Solna, is now seeking a research engineer, who performs ISS technology. In situ sequencing enables highly multiplexed RNA profiling directly in cells and even whole tissue sections while retaining the spatial information of all molecules sampled. In order to make this technology accessible to researchers nationwide, the facility provide the ISS services.
Main responsibilities
The main responsibility of the role is to work on projects for external users, but the position also includes internal research and development. The wet lab work includes processing tissue samples, performing ISS library preparation and ISS cyclic detection, as well as handling sensitive instruments such as fluorescence microscopes and the Xenium in situ platform. The office work includes image data processing/analysis and writing project reports.
Qualification requirements
- Master’s degree in molecular biology, biomedical science, biotechnology or similar.
- Previous work experience using molecular biological techniques.
- Previous work experience with fluorescence microscopy.
Experience using in situ hybridization or similar techniques is highly desirable. Previous work experience from the biotech industry, academic core-facilities, clinical laboratories or similar is an advantage. The successful candidate should be service minded and enjoy learning new methods. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills are essential. Professional English language skills are required. Emphasis will be placed on qualities of responsibility, flexibility, teamwork and ability to solve problems. Great emphasis will ge given to personal suitability.
Terms of employment
This is a full-time, 12 months employment. Salaries at Stockholm University are determined individually; therefore, please indicate your requested salary. Start date immediately.
