Work assignments
We are seeking a Senior Associate Professor in Medical Data Analytics. This position offers significant responsibility within one of Sweden’s key infrastructures for data-driven life science. You will lead the scientific aspects of the operation and drive national and international collaborations. This is a strategic role in a research-intensive environment with substantial opportunities to make an impact.
You will be employed as a Senior Associate Professor at the Department of Science and Technology (ITN), with your workplace located at the Center for Medical Image Science and Visualization (CMIV) at Linköping University Hospital (www.liu.se/cmiv).
Analytic Imaging Diagnostics Arena (AIDA) is a national initiative based at Linköping University that supports research and innovation in artificial intelligence (AI) for precision diagnostics. AIDA Data Hub, a branch of AIDA, is a national e-infrastructure for research and innovation in data-driven precision health. We provide secure computing and storage resources, data and data-sharing services, as well as advanced support and training in data governance, AI development, and secure systems design. You will be active within the research community, participating in departmental activities such as seminars and workshops, contributing to research projects, communicating research findings through scientific publications, and helping to attract external research funding.
The position also includes contributing to competence development across Sweden through AIDA’s activities, including project support, workshops, and courses. To a limited extent, the position may involve teaching at undergraduate and advanced levels, as well as supervising students within the faculty’s educational programmes.
You will actively contribute to the university’s development efforts. Collaboration is an integral part of the university’s mission in both research and education. Research collaboration involves disseminating, making accessible, and creating value from research findings. The position entails close interaction with leaders and experts from various organizations, universities, companies, and healthcare providers in different cities and countries. Travel is therefore expected as a natural part of the role.
In this position, you will serve as the Scientific Lead of AIDA Data Hub. This includes leading and developing the hub’s strategies to support excellent patient-centred research and overseeing its scientific collaborations. The role is part of the hub’s management team and reports to the Head of Unit, who has overall responsibility for the hub’s operations. As the hub is a unit within SciLifeLab, you will be expected to assume the role of Platform Scientific Director within the SciLifeLab organization.
Key responsibilities include developing and leading collaborations, particularly within large-scale international research consortia, and successfully securing external funding to support the hub’s continued development. The role also includes responsibility for the hub’s support to strategic partners and for platform features specifically tailored to the medical application domains served by the hub. In addition, the position involves hands-on work related to the development of these systems.
As part of your duties, you will stay informed about national and international developments within your field, as well as broader societal developments relevant to your work.

Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who have been appointed as a Docent (Senior Associate Professor) or possess equivalent scientific competence, and who have demonstrated pedagogical expertise or other professional expertise of relevance to the subject area and duties of the position.
For this position, primary emphasis will be placed on scientific expertise, followed by technical expertise, collaboration skills, and finally other qualifications, which will be assessed as being of equal significance relative to one another.
Regarding scientific expertise
The following qualifications will be assessed:
- Required: Experience and scientific achievements in AI applications involving large-scale medical data.
- Particularly meritorious: Scientific work involving AI applications for radiological imaging data.
- Particularly meritorious: Experience from research support environments, including contributions to open-source research software or similar initiatives.
- Meritorious: Interdisciplinary contributions made in collaboration with medical researchers.
Regarding technical expertise
The following qualifications will be assessed:
- Required: Extensive programming experience in data analytics and artificial intelligence.
- Particularly meritorious: Expertise in software development, especially in Linux environments.
- Meritorious: Knowledge and experience of systems administration, particularly in Linux environments.
Regarding collaboration and engagement
The following qualifications will be assessed:
- Particularly meritorious: Documented excellence in research collaboration. Close collaboration with healthcare organizations is of particular relevance.
Regarding teaching and educational expertise
The following qualifications will be assessed:
- Required: Documented experience of teaching at the advanced (Master’s) level.
- Meritorious: Experience supervising doctoral students.
Regarding other qualifications
Other qualifications that will be assessed include leadership skills, medical expertise, and personal attributes:
- Required: Ability to work independently and in a results-oriented manner.
- Particularly meritorious: Principal responsibility for securing and managing research grants.
- Particularly meritorious: Medical training or education.
- Particularly meritorious: Experience working in industry.
As research is conducted in English, you must be able to demonstrate the ability to carry out research and communicate effectively in English.
