The center combines frontline technical expertise with advanced knowledge of translational medicine and molecular bioscience. Main responsibilities

We are looking for a highly motivated staff scientist to join the In Situ Sequencing (ISS). While formally affiliated with DBB, the position is based at SciLifeLab, Sweden’s national hub for cutting-edge life science research.

The National Facility for In Situ Sequencing (ISS), located at SciLifeLab in Solna, provides state-of-the-art ISS technology to researchers across Sweden. In situ sequencing (ISS) enables highly multiplexed RNA profiling directly within cells and whole tissue sections, preserving spatial information for advanced molecular analysis. The facility’s mission is to make this powerful technology accessible by offering ISS services to the research community.

The primary responsibility of this role is to conduct internal research and support projects for external users.

Wet lab work includes processing tissue samples, performing ISS library preparation and microscopy, and operating sensitive instruments such as fluorescence microscopes and the Xenium in situ platform.

Office work involves image data processing and analysis, as well as preparing project reports.

Qualification requirements

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in molecular biology or equivalent competence
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Experience with in situ hybridization, , microscopy or similar techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with fluorescence microscopy
  • Experience handling biological tissue and cells
  • Solid understanding of molecular biology/biochemistry.

Personal Skills

To succeed in this role, you should be an independent problem-solver with a structured and quality-conscious approach to work. Strong communication skills, both written and spoken, are essential, as well as excellent collaboration skills.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

About the employment

This is a full-time, term-limited employment of 12 months’ duration. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting. Start date as per agreement.
