Abstract
Understanding relationships and functions of proteins at a global scale is key to unlocking new
biological insights. Through next-generation structure predictors like AlphaFold2 and ESMfold,
we now have access to an unprecedented volume of protein structures, providing a crucial
foundation to address this challenge. In this talk, I will present how our computational
methods ColabFold, MMseqs2, and Foldseek together allow extraction of biological insights
from protein sequences and structures at nearly billion-scale. Additionally, I will demonstrate
how protein language models combined with sparse experimental data can guide and
prioritize experimental efforts, enabling efficient iterative “lab-in-the-loop” research.
Together, these tools democratize computational analysis and significantly accelerate
discoveries in protein biology.
