Facility Forum 2026

June 16, 2026 @ 09:00 June 17, 2026 @ 15:00 CEST

SciLifeLab Facility Forum 2026

Dear SciLifeLab Infrastructure Team,

We are thrilled to invite you to two energizing days where the SciLifeLab infrastructure community comes together to connect, collaborate, and grow. This year, we are shining a spotlight on our theme: Technology Development and Light, illuminating the incredible work being done across our platforms.

Join us on June 16–17 at the Clarion Hotel Sign in Stockholm for a program designed to spark new ideas and brighten your professional network. We have a fantastic lineup featuring visionary plenary sessions on the future of life science, interactive workshops, and—for the first time ever—a SciArt Exhibition that explores the beautiful intersection of technology and light.

We’ll wrap up our first day with a grand “Banquet Full of Light,” where you are invited to dress to shine in your most sparkling attire.

We are so glad you are joining us to share experiences and help light the way forward for SciLifeLab. Let’s make these two days truly brilliant!

Meet the speakers

David Walker, RTProf, Platform Manager XRD RTP:

Dr David Walker is a Research Technical Professional (RTProf) working as a facility manager for the X-ray Diffraction Research Technology Platform (RTP) at the University of Warwick since 2014. He has over 20 years’ experience in X-ray scattering techniques, with a background in crystallography and ferroelectric materials having undertaken his PhD at Warwick with Professor Pam Thomas. In the last 12 years, the facility has grown from mainly local users to a regional hub with a growing national reputation. In response to changing science, the facility has added other X-ray scattering techniques, such as Small Angle X-ray Scattering, XRF and laboratory XAFS, alongside existing X-ray diffraction techniques including powder diffraction and structural solution instruments.

Niklas Blomberg, Executive Director, Innovative Health Initiative JU:

Niklas Blomberg joined IHI as Executive Director in January 2024. He brings to the role extensive experience in both research and leadership roles in the life sciences.

Prior to joining IHI Niklas was the founding Director for ELIXIR, the European research infrastructure for life science data (2013-2023). From 1999 to 2013 Niklas worked with AstraZeneca in various roles, including heading global cheminformatics and leading the establishment of a cross-disciplinary team for data driven drug discovery in the respiratory and inflammation research area.

A Swedish national, he has a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Gothenburg, and a PhD in structural biology and bioinformatics from the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Germany.

The SciArt exhibition

The SciArt exhibition explores the relationship between technology development and light through artistic expression. Inspired by the technologies, discoveries, and ways of seeing that shape our research environment, the exhibition invites visitors to encounter science from new perspectives.

Featuring contributions from 11  colleagues within SciLifeLab, the exhibition showcases a diverse range of artistic practices and media, including photography, ceramics, collage and acrylic painting. Some works draw directly from research and scientific technologies, while others offer personal reflections on light, discovery, and innovation.

We warmly invite you to visit the exhibition during the Facility Forum and discover how colleagues across SciLifeLab have interpreted the theme through their own artistic lens.
