Harnessing Ferroptosis as a Therapeutic Target for Disease Prevention
October 6, 2026 @ 15:15 – 16:15 CEST
Spotlight seminar series proudly welcomes Professor Marcus Conrad from Helmholtz Zentrum in München, Germany

Biography
Prof. Marcus Conrad is a leading expert in redox biology and regulated cell death, serving as Director of the Institute of Metabolism and Cell Death at Helmholtz Munich and Professor of Translational Redox Biology at the Technical University of Munich. His pioneering research has been instrumental in establishing ferroptosis, an iron-dependent form of regulated cell death, as a fundamental biological process with major implications for human health and disease.
Over the past two decades, Prof. Conrad’s work has uncovered key molecular mechanisms controlling cellular life-and-death decisions, including the roles of GPX4 and FSP1 in protecting cells from oxidative damage. His discoveries have opened new therapeutic avenues for potentially treating cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, stroke, and ischemic injury.
Prof. Conrad was elected to the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina in 2026, one of Germany’s highest scientific honors. His seminar will provide unique insights into the biology of ferroptosis and its emerging potential for the development of next-generation therapies.
