Smarter Trials, Faster Cures: The AI Revolution in Clinical Research
November 19, 2026 @ 14:00 – 15:00 CET
Clinical Talk from Stéphanie Allassonnière, Professor of Applied Mathematics, Université Paris Cité

Short biography
Stéphanie Allassonnière is Professor of Applied Mathematics at the School of Medicine, Université Paris Cité, and Vice-President for Research Translation and Industrial Partnerships. Her research focuses on generative AI and statistical modelling of medical data to accelerate clinical research and support data-driven medical decision-making. She is internationally recognized for her work on synthetic patient generation and artificial cohorts for clinical trials. Stéphanie is also Deputy Director of the PR[AI]RIE AI Institute, Deputy Director of the AI and Health Department at Université Paris Cité Medical School, and co-founder of Sonio, a healthcare AI company focused on maternal and child health.
Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming clinical research and drug development by accelerating every stage of the process, from molecular design to clinical trials. Large Language Models (LLMs) can streamline protocol development, patient recruitment, and statistical reporting, reducing both costs and timelines. Reinforcement learning enables the design of novel therapeutic molecules with targeted properties, while digital twins allow simulation of disease progression and treatment responses to improve trial design and patient selection. In parallel, synthetic data generation and artificial patient cohorts are opening new possibilities for supplementing or replacing traditional control arms while maintaining scientific rigor and regulatory compliance. Through real-world examples, this presentation will explore how these AI-driven innovations are reshaping clinical research and enabling faster development of new therapies.
About Clinical Talks
Clinical Talks returns with a new season!
After seven successful seasons and over seventy dedicated speakers, we are excited to continue showcasing the contributions of our diverse clinical, academic, and industry life science community. This season will feature ten insightful talks following our well-established format.
The overarching theme is “How to Achieve Feasible Implementation”. Sessions are held monthly, usually on Fridays via Zoom, with occasional exceptions. Each talk will be followed by an engaging Q&A session, moderated by standing host Rikard Fred and a guest moderator with subject matter expertise to enrich the discussion.
In today’s rapidly evolving post-pandemic landscape, exploring how academic, clinical, and industry research, combined with technological advancements, can drive practical and sustainable solutions is crucial. Join us to gain fresh insights, expand your knowledge, and connect with experts shaping the future of life sciences!
Clinical Talks are organized by SciLifeLab.
