SciLifeLab researcher Sara Mangsbo awarded the ÅForsk’s scholarship

SciLifeLab researcher Sara Mangsbo (UU) has been appointed one of Sweden’s ten most innovative entrepreneurs 2020 by the Swedish Incubators & Science Parks (SISP) and ÅForsk.

This means she will receive the ÅForsk’s entrepreneur Scholarship of 200 000 SEK to further develop her research project, Immune Gas Pedal (IMMGAP), a platform that can help make cancer treatments faster, cheaper and more personalized.

IMMGAP effectively utilizes our own bodies as factories to produce immune cells that can later be used to eliminate tumours. For several years, the project has been supported by the SciLifeLab Drug Development and Discovery platform (DDD) and is listed as a high priority project.

“The scholarship provides funding for the project as well as positive energy for the team that works hard to make this a successful project. We hope that the platform we develop can work as a flexible vaccine platform for cancer, but possibly also for infectious diseases. We see that individualized treatments are needed and required, as well as flexible vaccine platforms, which can quickly establish new prophylactic or therapeutic treatments by enhancing immune response towards tumors or viruses”, says Sara Mangsbo, in a press release from Uppsala University.

The research leading to the innovation has also been supported by SSMF (Svenska Sällskapet för Medicinsk Forskning) and Druidordern.
