No less than three of the SciLifeLab Fellows have received starting grants from the European Research Council, ERC, 2016. Magda Bienko, Karolinska Institutet/SciLifeLab, Sebastian Deindl, Uppsala Universitet/SciLifeLab and Simon Elsässer, Karolinska Institutet/SciLifeLab all get up to EUR 1.5 million for up to 5 years.
ERC Starting Grants are designed to encourage young talented research leaders to gain independence in Europe and to build their own careers. The scheme targets promising researchers who have the proven potential of becoming independent research leaders.
In 2014 SciLifeLab Fellow Ilaria Testa also received ERC Starting Grant. Furthermore, SciLifeLab faculty members Fredrik Swartling and Petter Brodin got ERC Starting Grants in 2014 and 2015 respectively.
