Large International COVID19 consortium

SciLifeLab researcher Petter Brodin (KI) has been appointed Swedish coordinator for the international consortium The COVID Human Genetic Effort. Their goal is to identify and study young patients (<50years of age), without underlying conditions, developing severe COVID-19 and requiring intensive care, in order to search for possible inborn errors of immunity.

“We will share information about this initiative and collaborate with experts around the country. We hope to identify and include 500 such cases globally for systems immunology investigation and Whole genome sequencing analyses”, says Petter Brodin.

The project aims to discover truly causative monogenic variations, rare or common, and decipher in depth the molecular, cellular, and immunological mechanisms by which they actually cause resistance to viral infection or predisposition to severe disease.
