DDLS Research School Launch: Pre-Kickoff

On November 13, the DDLS Research School hosted its first student gathering with a pre-kickoff event at the Slussen Hilton. Twenty-six newly recruited PhD students attended the event, which concluded with dinner and social activities. During the pre-kickoff, the students were introduced to the DDLS Research School and learned about life as a PhD student, presented by Emilia Lahtinen (KI). They also had the opportunity to get to know each other further through various group activities.

“We are happy to have had the opportunity to describe the aims of the DDLS Research School and it was specifically nice to meet the newly recruited DDLS PhD students. Through teamwork tasks we gained useful information upon the PhD students’ expectations and wishes for the school. It is with great excitement that we now have performed a pre-kick off for the DDLS Research School where we met some of the newly recruited PhD students”, Says Peetra Magnusson (UU), Co-Director of the DDLS Research School.

The DDLS Research School, launched during 2024, is a national initiative that will train the next generation of data-driven life scientists, ensuring that Sweden meets the future data-driven needs in R&D, industry, health care, and society at large. In total, the school will engage over 500 researchers, including 185 PhDs (45 industrial), 135 postdocs (45 industrial), as well as the PhDs and postdocs included in the DDLS Fellows funding packages.

“The prestigious KAW funding for the DDLS Research School will enable a great number recruitments in the coming years. We look forward to meet all DDLS PhD students in the upcoming annual meeting early spring 2025 and prepare ourselves for the future DDLS Research School PhD students and Postdocs to come”, says Olof Emanuelsson (KTH), Co-Director of the DDLS Research School.
