Environment drives human immune variation more than genes

A study of twins led by Petter Brodin, Karolinska Institutet/SciLifeLab, shows that our environment, not our heredity, plays the starring role in determining the state of our immune system, the body’s primary defense against disease. This is especially true as we age, the study indicates. The findings are being published in the journal Cell.
