FunCoup 6: A major update

A new version of FunCoup, one of the most comprehensive functional association networks of genes/proteins available, has been released. The new version, FunCoup 6, developed by SciLifeLab researcher Erik Sonnhammer (Stockholm University) and his group, contains major updates.

Network biology presents a new paradigm for understanding the complex interactions between molecules within an organism through an integrative and systems approach. By employing network analysis in their research, scientists can, for example, generate new hypotheses about molecular mechanisms, conduct functional annotation of network modules, or predict novel drug targets.

“FunCoup 6 demonstrates superior performance compared to other functional association networks, offering researchers enhanced capabilities for studying gene regulation, protein interactions, and disease-related pathways,” says Erik Sonnhammer.

The new platform has been significantly improved and redesigned, featuring enhanced regulatory coverage, a new training framework, a new website, and advanced tools for network analysis. It will also be available as a Cytoscape app.
