SciLifeLab Data Centre appoints Sverker Holmgren to lead e-infrastructure strategy

SciLifeLab is strengthening its strategic approach to e-infrastructure and national coordination with the appointment of Sverker Holmgren as lead of e-infrastructure strategy and coordination at SciLifeLab Data Centre. In this role, he will lead the development of a SciLifeLab roadmap for e-infrastructure, establish and shape collaborations with key partners in Sweden and internationally, and provide strategic guidance to the SciLifeLab Data Centre as it expands its catalogue of data services.

Most recently, Sverker Holmgren served as the director of Chalmers e-Infrastructure Chalmers e-Commons

“It will be very inspiring to take a strategic approach to the broader development of e-infrastructure for SciLifeLab. I hope to contribute to the ongoing work in which SciLifeLab is gaining a clearer focus on digital service functions, openness, and international collaborations as key means to further strengthen excellence in Swedish life science research” says Sverker Holmgren.

The strategic and collaborative effort behind SciLifeLab’s e-infrastructure initiative will enhance the services provided to the SciLifeLab community.

“SciLifeLab has now positioned Data and AI at the centre of its strategy for data-driven life science. Because of that, we are now facing the major challenge to ensure SciLifeLab researchers and infrastructure units have access to the best compute- and data management services with a focus on the requirements in the life science domain. As a distributed national infrastructure, we will build up SciLifeLab’s capability in this area in strong partnerships with national e-infrastructure organisations, such as NAISS and SND, but also the university IT departments and local academic compute centers”, says Johan Rung, Head of SciLifeLab Data Centre.

Holmgren’s appointment marks an important step in strengthening SciLifeLab’s long-term capacity to meet increasing demands of data-driven life science.

“Sverker has a well-established position as one of Sweden’s foremost experts in the area, and his knowledge and experience will be essential to guide SciLifeLab right in the complex Swedish e-infrastructure landscape. I’m very much looking forward to working with him”, says Johan Rung.
