SciLifeLab in the life science dialogues at Almedalen 2025

SciLifeLab participated in Almedalsveckan 2025 to highlight the importance of life science research and infrastructure in building a healthier and more resilient society. SciLifeLab engages in Almedalen to connect science with decision-makers, foster dialogue on societal issues, and promote collaboration across sectors.

This year, SciLifeLab discussions explored how large-scale European digital initiatives can support better health, healthcare, research, and innovation; how Sweden can take a leading role in precision medicine research; and how national clinical trials in precision medicine could help position Sweden at the global forefront. Another event focused on the role of AI and data-driven research in translating scientific advances into long-term societal value.

In addition to public seminars, SciLifeLab also arranged a roundtable discussion on career paths for infrastructure professionals. The session addressed the need for clearer, more sustainable career structures to attract and retain talent.

“Almedalen is a very special opportunity to bridge science and society. This year, we focused on highlighting the vital role of research infrastructure, data and AI, and cross-sector collaboration especially with health care and industry in tackling global challenges. We already look forward to continuing the dialogue in Almedalen next year”, says SciLifeLab Director Jan Ellenberg.

Over 2,450 public events took place during the week, and thought leaders and decision makers were available for discussions in Visby during the open and democratic meeting place that is Almedalen Week.
