About

The SciLifeLab PhD and Postdoc Council (Campus Solna) is a non-formal association of PhD students and Postdoctoral researchers working at SciLifeLab. We provide PhD and Postdocs at SciLifeLab with a supportive network and representation. With 3 Universities under one roof, you can get easily lost as newcomer. Our aim is to work closely with SciLifeLab directors and administration to making SciLifeLab an attractive place. On this page, we will keep you posted our work and provide you with useful information. We announce our upcoming events here, on our google calendar and via the ‘general’ email-list, thus make sure you subscribe for that email-list. Moreover, you can follow us on Bluesky or Instagram . Activities

Campus Solna Seminar

This is a weekly institute-wide seminar series held every Thursday at 12-13h to bring together scientist from different floors and different buildings. Two PhD or Postdoc speakers present their ongoing (unpublished) projects. This seminar offers an opportunity to exchange ideas across disciplines and areas of research, and a chance for PhD students and Postdocs to present their work and get feedback. Moreover all academic staff can quickly become acquainted with the latest technologies and expertise that the institute can offer, and will also stimulate interdisciplinary collaboration. To join the presenting schedule, discuss this initiative with your group leader, they can sign you up. We strive that every researcher at our campus can present. PhD students that are attending the Campus Solna Seminar lectures will have the opportunity to gain credits. For the syllabus and instructions on how to obtain these credits, read this document. Please contact your own department at your host University to confirm.

BAM Seminar

At the “Biology At Most” seminar we invite speakers from all types of life science career paths. Some of the speakers we had before were biosafety officer in industry, patent attorney, detective for misconduct in biomedical research, trainer to visualize science and representative of grant offices of KI, SU & KTH. They will share their visions, perspectives and expertise in their field in a relatively informal environment. We are always happy to get suggestions for interesting speaker who we can invite. If you know anyone who would be potentially interesting, please contact us.

Meet-the-speaker Fika

Every month on Tuesday SciLifeLab hosts the The Spotlight international seminar at 15.00h. After the seminar (at 16.15h) a small group of PhD students and PostDocs (~10-12 people) are invited to join a fika with the speaker. This is a great opportunity to meet prominent scientists in person and to ask questions about their science and careers.

Science Talks

SciLifeLab Solna organises an internal symposium every year to highlight the diversity of research topics at our institute. Various group leaders at our campus will present the work. Apart from group leaders, PhD students and Postdocs are encouraged to present their mature work too. The PhD and Postdoc council selects the presentations of these junior scientist from online abstract submission.

SciLifeLab Orientation

We are working in a different building than our host University, which make it sometimes hard to find the right people to ask questions regarding your work e.g. how things work with the half-time seminar for PhDs or where to find grant writing courses for Postdocs. We host introductory sessions with SciLifeLab PhD & Postdocs from KI, SU and KTH that are already around SciLifeLab for a while. They will man a stand to inform you about PhD/Postdoc associations from your University or they will help you with specific administrative related questions.
Keep in mind that the information given in this event is not binding, but it can help to point you into the right direction to find your answers. Moreover, this platform is a great opportunity to meet both older SciLifeLab members and other recently started PhDs and Postdocs at SciLifeLab.

Social Activities

Besides the scientific opportunities, we also organize some leisure, because great interactions are made over social activities! We organize fun events including nature hikes, movie nights, board game evenings.
